Effective 1 October 2026
These are the terms for using Furlong, a walking app operated by Furlong (“we”). By creating an account you agree to them. They are short on purpose; if anything is unclear, ask at ibk2k7@gmail.com.
What Furlong is
Furlong helps you set one daily walking goal and meet it: it draws a loop from where you are sized to what is left of the goal, tracks the walk, counts your days and awards trophies for walking. It is a companion for ordinary walking, not a medical device, a training programme or professional advice. Talk to a doctor before changing how much you exercise if you have any reason to.
Walking safely
Routes are suggestions drawn on public footpath data that Furlong has never seen in person. A path may be closed, unlit, flooded, busy with traffic or simply not suitable for you. You decide where to walk and you are responsible for your own safety: look up from the phone, cross where it is safe, and stop a walk that does not feel right. Voice cues are a convenience, not a guide.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 to hold an account.
- Sign in with your own email address, or with your own Google or Apple account. Keep your sign-in details to yourself: everything done through your account counts as done by you.
- One person, one account. You may use it on more than one phone.
- You can change what the app holds about you from inside it at any time, and delete the account entirely (see below).
Using the app properly
Use the app for walking. Do not try to break it, get at anyone else’s data, run it through automated tools, or use it to do anything unlawful. There are no shared routes, leaderboards or messages between users, so there is little to abuse, but we may suspend or close an account that is used to interfere with the service or with other people.
Your data and your walks
Your walks, routes, profile and picture are yours. We store and process them only to run the app for you, as the privacy policy describes. We claim no rights over them and we do not publish them. If you share a walk, you choose where it goes; what happens to it there is between you and that service.
Health data, maps and other services
Several parts of the app rest on services we do not run, each under its own terms: Apple Health and Health Connect for the steps you have already walked, Apple Maps and Google Maps for the map, OpenRouteService for routes and place search, Apple and Google for signing in with those accounts, and Expo for delivering notifications and over-the-air updates. Those services can change or become unavailable; when they do, the feature that depends on them may too.
Availability and changes
We try to keep Furlong running, but it is provided as it is, without a promise that it will always be available, error-free or fit for any particular purpose. We may change, add or remove features, and we may retire the app. Some changes arrive as an over-the-air update, which the app fetches in the background and applies the next time you open it. If we retire the app we will tell you in advance and you will be able to delete your account first.
Ending things
You can delete your account from inside the app or from the delete-account page on our website. Deletion happens 30 days after you confirm; signing in before then cancels it. What is deleted and what is briefly kept is set out in the privacy policy. We may close an account that breaks these terms; where the law allows, we will say why.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Beyond that, to the extent the law allows, Furlong is not liable for loss that comes from relying on a route, a distance, a step count or any other figure the app shows, from the app being unavailable, or from something a third-party service did. The app is free; our total liability to you is limited accordingly.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction over any dispute, without taking away protections you have as a consumer where you live.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change, the date at the top changes with it, and the app tells you with a notice. Carrying on using the app after a change means you accept it; if you do not, delete your account.
